Holding Space, Not Fixing — The Sacred Role of a Healer

“You don’t have to deliver a miracle. You only have to be present for one.” - Joy & Matt Kahn

Good morning, beautiful souls…

Today we want to speak directly to the hearts of healers, coaches, guides…
those of you who sit with others in their most tender moments.

There’s a quiet pressure that can live inside the role of healer, coach, or confidant - a subtle, often unspoken belief:

“I must find a way to fix this.”
“I must help them get better.”
“I must create a breakthrough.”

And while that intention comes from love…it can also become the very thing that interrupts the healing we’re here to support.

Because healing isn’t something we deliver. It isn’t a destination someone arrives at because we did everything right. Healing… is a journey. And more than anything—it’s a journey of participation.

So what does that mean for us, as healers?

It means we’re not here to carry the weight of outcomes. We’re not here to make sure someone’s pain goes away, that their body changes, that their life transforms, or they shift to a new timeline .

We are here to create a space where they feel safe enough to participate in their own journey.

There’s something we’ve seen over and over again…

When someone feels pressure, even loving, well-intended pressure to get better their body tightens, their nervous system contracts, and healing slows down.

But when someone feels witnessed - something opens.

Most people don’t need a solution.

They need a witness. They need someone who can sit with them and say—without words:

“I see you.”
“I hear you.”
“I’m with you.”

And not—
“Let me fix this for you.”

Because the moment we move into fixing we subtly send a message:

“This shouldn’t be happening.”
“You need to be different.”

The body and the mind hear that and it reinforces the very resistance they’re trying to move through.

But when we hold space we become something else entirely. We become a place of safety and safety is where healing actually begins.

So what does it look like to hold space instead of fix?

  • It looks like listening without needing to respond.
  • It looks like allowing someone’s vulnerability without trying to change it into something more comfortable.
  • It looks like trusting that their process is not broken.

Even when it’s messy, progress feels slow, and the journey doesn’t match our expectations.

Because here’s the deeper truth in this:

The soul doesn’t come here just to achieve preferred outcomes. The soul comes here to participate.

And when we try to rush someone toward an outcome—we can actually pull them out of the very participation their soul is asking for.

As healers, this is the shift:

From
“How do I help them get there?”

To
“How do I walk with them… here?”

And that “here” matters because this moment—this breath—this feeling they’re having is not in the way of their healing. It is the healing.

When we hold space well we create an environment where the body feels safe to speak, the heart feels safe to open, and the truth can emerge naturally.

And something else begins to happen. We are no longer exhausted. We are no longer carrying the impossible weight of trying to be the one who changes someone’s life.

Instead, we become companions, witnesses, and stewards of a sacred space.

So if you feel that pressure today…

To fix.
To solve.
To make something happen…

Just pause.

And come back to this:

You don’t have to deliver a miracle, you only have to be present for one.

And often, the miracle is that someone finally feels safe enough to be exactly where they are.

So as you move into your sessions… your conversations… your work…

Ask yourself:

  • Can I be a space… where nothing needs to be different?
  • Can I trust their journey… even when I don’t understand it?
  • Can I witness… instead of fix?

When we do that we don’t just support healing, we become the environment where healing unfolds.

We love you and we honor the sacred role you play in the unfolding of so many journeys.

Joy and Matt ♥️

Have you fallen into this trap?
One of the most common ways the spiritual ego hides is behind a single phrase: "I shouldn't have to want." Many sensitive, deeply spiritual people have been taught that wanting things is an attachment. We learn to transcend desire, to be okay with whatever happens, and to view wanting as a sign that we are not fully surrendered. But there is a profound difference between surrendering to the flo...
Why we retreat when we actually crave connection
There is a painful, quiet dance that many sensitive people do: we crave deep, soul-nourishing connection, but we retreat into isolation because we are exhausted by the thought of managing other people's expectations. When we look closely at our patterns, it is very common to find that what we call "self-care" is actually a defense mechanism. We meet someone new, we feel that beautiful spark of ...
The Hidden Source of our Deepest Family Frustration
There is a quiet, profound dynamic that plays out in almost every family system, yet it is rarely spoken about until we are deep into our own healing journey. It is this: The parent we are most frustrated with is usually not the parent where the problem originated. When we look back at our childhoods, it is very common to feel massive, unresolved frustration toward the parent who was always the...
