Speaker 1 0:00
Welcome back to Integrated Awakening. We are so grateful to be here with you
Matt Kahn 0:05
today. We wanted to share a story from Santa Fe. It is simple on the surface, but it stayed with us because sometimes the most profound teachings do not arrive as teachings, they arrive as conversations, as moments of beauty, as something someone says in passing that suddenly opens a doorway inside the heart.
Speaker 1 0:24
We were shopping in Santa Fe, and if you ever spent time there, you know the city has its own kind of magic: the art, the clothing, the jewelry, the textures, the colors, the buildings, the people. There are so many unique pieces, and so many incredible humans who make the city feel alive, expressive, and deeply memorable,
Matt Kahn 0:42
and in one of the shops we met a woman named Julie.
Speaker 1 0:46
Julie was working there, and she told us that she had visited Santa Fe 20 years earlier and simply never left, and you could feel that she did not just work in Santa Fe, she embodied the city, she carried its warmth, its artistry, its grounded eccentricity, it's invitation to become more fully yourself.
Matt Kahn 1:05
She made the experience special, not because she was trying to sell us something, but because she was present. She was generous, she was knowledgeable, she knew how to guide without pressuring, she knew how to help us see.
Speaker 1 1:18
At one point, she started teaching us about hats, how to wear them, how to choose them, what to look for, and then she said something that stopped us in the best way.
Matt Kahn 1:28
She said, you buy the hat that makes your face the feature, not the hat.
Speaker 1 1:34
The moment she said it, something landed, because it is not only true about hats, it is true about so much of life.
Matt Kahn 1:43
It is true about what we wear. It is true about what we choose. It is true about spiritual identities, healing modalities, business models, brands, titles, trainings, offerings, and even the roles we try on when we're attempting to become the version of ourselves we think the world will finally recognize
Speaker 1 2:02
sometimes something looks beautiful on the rack, and when you put it on, it simply is not you.
Matt Kahn 2:07
And sometimes something is impressive from the outside, but when you try to build your life around it, you start to disappear inside of
Speaker 2 2:15
it.
Speaker 1 2:15
We see this so often with healers, coaches, and way showers. There can be such a sincere desire to get it right, to choose the right modality, to use the right language, to build the right brand, to follow the right strategy, to look like a real practitioner, and to be taken seriously, to finally feel ready,
Matt Kahn 2:35
and none of that is wrong. Training matters, beauty matters, structure matters, the way we present our work matters, but there is a subtle difference between choosing something that amplifies who you are and choosing something that covers who you are.
Speaker 1 2:50
That is the distinction we want to explore today.
Matt Kahn 2:53
Buy the one that makes your face the feature, not the hat.
Speaker 1 2:58
Let that land for a moment,
Matt Kahn 3:00
because in the healing world, the hat can be many things, it can be the modality, it can be the certification, it can be the esthetic, it can be the title, it can be the niche, it can be the social media persona, it can be the way you think a successful healer is supposed to sound,
Speaker 1 3:17
it can even be a spiritual identity that once helped you feel safe, special, or purposeful, but now feels too tight for who you are becoming.
Matt Kahn 3:27
And sometimes we begin to believe that if the hat is impressive enough, then we will finally be enough.
Speaker 1 3:33
If the modality is powerful enough, then we'll finally trust ourselves.
Speaker 2 3:37
If the
Matt Kahn 3:37
brand is polished enough, then people will finally see our value.
Speaker 1 3:41
If the language is elevated enough, then we'll finally feel legitimate.
Matt Kahn 3:46
If the identity is spiritual enough, then we will not have to feel the vulnerability of being human, visible, and still learning.
Speaker 1 3:54
But the hat is not the feature.
Matt Kahn 3:57
You are
Speaker 1 3:58
your presence is the feature, your heart is the feature, your lived wisdom is the feature, your devotion, your discernment, your compassion, your humor, your steadiness, your sensitivity, your capacity to hold space without disappearing. That is the feature.
Matt Kahn 4:17
The modality is not the magic. The magic in you is amplified by the modality.
Speaker 1 4:23
The framework is not meant to replace your essence. The framework is meant to hold your essence, so it can be expressed with more clarity, safety, and sustainability.
Matt Kahn 4:33
And when you understand that, something begins to shift. You stop looking for the thing that will make you worthy, and you start choosing the things that help your worth become more visible.
Speaker 1 4:44
There's an old phrase that says the clothes make the person, and there is some truth in the sense that what we wear can help us feel a certain way, but on a deeper level, the person makes the clothes,
Matt Kahn 4:57
the woman makes the outfit, the man makes. The outfit the soul makes the expression,
Speaker 1 5:02
and this is such an important reminder for anyone walking a spiritual path or building a healing business, because many people are not only choosing offerings, they are trying on identities.
Matt Kahn 5:15
Maybe I'm supposed to be a coach,
Speaker 1 5:18
maybe I'm supposed to be an intuitive healer,
Matt Kahn 5:20
maybe I'm supposed to be a somatic practitioner,
Speaker 1 5:23
maybe I'm supposed to speak this way, look this way, post this way, package my work this way.
Matt Kahn 5:29
And again, exploration is beautiful. We try things on as part of discovering what is true, but there is a moment when we have to pause and ask, Does this make me more myself, or does this require me to abandon myself in order to belong?
Speaker 1 5:44
That question can change everything.
Matt Kahn 5:46
Because if you are wearing a role that does not fit, you may still receive praise, but you will not feel free.
Speaker 1 5:54
If you're building a business around an identity that is not truly yours, you may look aligned from the outside but feel fragmented on the inside.
Matt Kahn 6:03
If you are using a modality in a way that forces you to perform, over give, or become someone you do not recognize, then the modality is no longer amplifying your light, it is overshadowing it.
Speaker 1 6:16
And for many healers, this is one of the hidden pathways into burnout. It is not only doing too much, it is doing too much while trying to be someone else.
Matt Kahn 6:25
It is holding a shape your nervous system cannot sustain.
Speaker 1 6:28
It is offering from a costume instead of from your core.
Matt Kahn 6:32
And this is why worth has to come before performance, because when you forget your worth, you start asking everyone around you to prove it.
Speaker 1 6:41
You ask the modality to prove
Matt Kahn 6:42
it. You ask the client outcome to prove
Speaker 1 6:45
it. You ask the audience response to prove it.
Matt Kahn 6:48
You ask your income, your calendar, your likes, your titles, and your certifications to prove something that was never meant to be negotiated.
Speaker 1 6:55
Your worth is not on trial.
Matt Kahn 6:57
Your worth is not waiting to be granted by the next training, the next client, the next compliment, the next viral post, or the next transformation you facilitate.
Speaker 1 7:07
Your worth is the gold within you. The work is not to become the gold, the work is to polish what is already there, so it can shine with less distortion.
Matt Kahn 7:19
This brings us to something we care deeply about inside the Healers Code Academy, the importance of a framework that holds the practitioner, not just the modality,
Speaker 1 7:29
because a lot of trainings teach you how to use a tool, and tools are important, but a practitioner needs more than a tool.
Matt Kahn 7:36
A practitioner needs a framework that helps them stay centered while they serve,
Speaker 1 7:41
a practitioner needs a framework that helps them understand what is happening in the client's process without taking ownership of the client's timing.
Matt Kahn 7:50
A practitioner needs ethical boundaries, clear stages, grounded language, and a way to facilitate transformation without overextending, performing, rescuing, or disappearing inside the work.
Speaker 1 8:02
In other words, you need a hat that makes your face the feature.
Matt Kahn 8:05
You need a structure that makes your essence more available, not less.
Speaker 1 8:09
You need a methodology that amplifies the magic in you, rather than convincing you that the magic lives somewhere outside of you.
Matt Kahn 8:17
This is why we often say that process matters more than modality, not because modality does not matter, but because the modality needs to be held by something deeper.
Speaker 1 8:26
It needs to be held by your presence,
Matt Kahn 8:28
needs to be held by your integrity,
Speaker 1 8:30
it needs to be held by your nervous system,
Matt Kahn 8:32
it needs to be held by a framework that helps you remain recognizable to yourself,
Speaker 1 8:37
because if the work you're doing requires you to become less human, less honest, less spacious, less grounded, or less yourself. Then something is out of alignment.
Matt Kahn 8:47
The goal is not to become a more impressive spiritual personality. The goal is to become a more trustworthy practitioner.
Speaker 1 8:54
And trustworthy practitioners are not people who hide behind the hat, they are people whose light can be seen clearly, because the hat fits.
Matt Kahn 9:04
As coaches, healers, and way showers, one of the greatest gifts we offer is helping people see what they have forgotten about themselves.
Speaker 1 9:10
We help people remember that they are not their coping patterns,
Matt Kahn 9:14
they are not their trauma responses,
Speaker 1 9:16
they are not their fear, their shame, their confusion, or their survival strategies,
Matt Kahn 9:22
they are not the costume they put on to feel safe in a world that may not have known how to honor their sensitivity.
Speaker 1 9:29
They are the light beneath it, they are the gold beneath the dust, they are the presence that can be polished, strengthened, and expressed with more freedom.
Matt Kahn 9:39
We cannot consistently help others remember their worth, that we are constantly forgetting our own.
Speaker 1 9:45
We cannot guide others back to themselves while abandoning ourselves to look more legitimate.
Matt Kahn 9:50
We cannot teach embodiment while building a business that requires us to perform an identity our body does not trust,
Speaker 1 9:57
and so the invitation is not to. Reject the hat. It is not to reject beauty, expression, modality, training, structure, branding, or business. The invitation is to choose what makes your face the feature.
Matt Kahn 10:10
Choose the modality that helps your wisdom come alive.
Speaker 1 10:14
Choose the framework that helps your nervous system stay regulated.
Matt Kahn 10:18
Choose the structure that allows your gifts to become sustainable.
Speaker 1 10:22
Choose the identity that feels like a homecoming, not a costume.
Matt Kahn 10:26
Choose the path that does not ask you to disappear in order to be approved of,
Speaker 1 10:31
because you are the light, you are the celebration, you are the feature.
Matt Kahn 10:36
Everything around you is meant to be an expression of you, not the other way around.
Speaker 1 10:42
So, as we close, we invite you to reflect on Julie's wisdom with us.
Matt Kahn 10:46
What are you wearing in your life or your business that makes you more visible as yourself?
Speaker 1 10:52
And what are you wearing that may be beautiful, impressive, or acceptable to others but does not actually feel like you?
Matt Kahn 11:00
Where have you been asking a modality, a title, a brand, or an identity to give you worth,
Speaker 1 11:05
and where is your worth asking to be remembered before you choose the next expression?
Matt Kahn 11:10
If you're a healer, coach, or practitioner who feels called to serve, but you're tired of trying to become someone you do not recognize in order to build a sustainable practice, this is part of why we created the Healers Code Academy.
Speaker 1 11:25
The academy is a training ground where your calling can be structured without being diminished, where your gift can be refined without being replaced, and where your work can become more grounded, ethical, and sustainable without losing its soul.
Matt Kahn 11:40
We're not here to give you a hat that hides your face.
Speaker 1 11:43
We're here to help you find the framework that lets your light be seen more clearly,
Matt Kahn 11:48
because the modality is not the magic.
Speaker 1 11:50
The magic in you is amplified by the modality,
Matt Kahn 11:55
and when the framework holds you well, you can hold others with more presence, more clarity, and more trust,
Speaker 1 12:02
so this week, remember you're not here to be overshadowed by what you offer,
Matt Kahn 12:06
you are here to offer from the truth of who you are,
Speaker 1 12:09
you are the future,
Matt Kahn 12:11
you are the light,
Speaker 1 12:13
and your worth was never waiting for the perfect hat.
Matt Kahn 12:17
Thank you for joining us for this episode of Integrated Awakening.
