The Maturity of the Ego

“True spiritual maturity is not the disappearance of ego. It is the maturation of ego.” – Joy & Matt Kahn

Beloved Friends,

Many of us were taught, directly or subtly, that the “end goal” of awakening is to have no ego at all… to float above reactions, detach from the world, and live in a kind of spiritual neutrality. But what looks like egolessness is often something else entirely: disconnection from the very life we came here to live.

In this week’s teaching, we explore why enlightenment is not the erasure of ego, but its maturation. We look at how a mature ego can stay present in the full spectrum of human experience, without needing to control life to feel safe or escape life to feel peaceful. If you’ve ever worried that your engagement with the world makes you “less spiritual,” this audio offers a different lens on freedom: not disappearing from life, but meeting it with a self that is no longer at war with reality.

Energy Update for the Week of March 9 - 15, 2026

This week invites a shift from vision into tangible reality, asking us to ground our ideas in practical action. Early in the week, a powerful reset may bring clarity about what truly matters, especially around work, resources, and long-term stability. As the days unfold, attention turns toward responsibility, leadership, and the wise use of energy—highlighting where discipline and focus can transform potential into real progress. Midweek may feel like a test of priorities as Mercury Retrograde continues to stir delays, miscommunications, or the need to revisit past decisions. Rather than forcing outcomes, this period encourages thoughtful adjustments and patience. By the weekend, momentum begins to stabilize, offering a clearer view of what is working and what is not.

Overall, this is a week of translating inspiration into form—moving from idealism toward grounded results that can support the path ahead.

Erasing "meant to be" from your vocabulary
One of the most common phrases in the spiritual community is also one of the most dangerous: "It was meant to be." We hear it all the time. When a relationship fails, when a business partnership collapses, or when a boundary is crossed, the immediate reflex is to say, "Everything happens for a reason. I just needed to learn the lesson." While this sounds deeply spiritual, it is often a quiet ju...
Have you fallen into this trap?
One of the most common ways the spiritual ego hides is behind a single phrase: "I shouldn't have to want." Many sensitive, deeply spiritual people have been taught that wanting things is an attachment. We learn to transcend desire, to be okay with whatever happens, and to view wanting as a sign that we are not fully surrendered. But there is a profound difference between surrendering to the flo...
Why we retreat when we actually crave connection
There is a painful, quiet dance that many sensitive people do: we crave deep, soul-nourishing connection, but we retreat into isolation because we are exhausted by the thought of managing other people's expectations. When we look closely at our patterns, it is very common to find that what we call "self-care" is actually a defense mechanism. We meet someone new, we feel that beautiful spark of ...
