What if Having More Begins With a Shift in Focus?

Overwhelm is a catalyst for change and a harbinger of unrealized gratitude.

Our client, Sarah, came to us recently feeling overwhelmed by the experience she was having in her business. She couldn’t seem to find a qualified candidate to help her with her marketing. As a result, she was feeling defeated and concerned that the Universe might be sending a message to her that she was doing something wrong or there wasn’t anyone who could help her. We invited her to acknowledge what she was feeling while also guiding her to focus on what else may be happening in her experience.

Gratitude arises naturally when our focus moves away from what is missing, lost, or unavailable in our lives and towards the abundance present in any given moment – through our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. With mindful attention we can honor both experiences by objectively observing and acknowledging these two truths at once. One truth does not take away from the other – experiencing them together creates an opportunity for transformation.

As Sarah shifted her focus, she was able to observe her experience without identifying with it. We invited her to focus on the passion and love she has for her business and to notice – while she needed help, she was also getting clear on the precise person for the role. With each candidate she discovered more clarity and refined the job description to better match her ideal candidate. As she focused more on what she was discovering (without avoiding the pain that she needed more help) she was able to find the ideal candidate in just a few weeks. The person she hired was completely different from the person she thought she would hire when she began the process. The process of not finding someone transformed her and led to greater success, more abundance, and ease in her life and business.

When we can honor what is present in our experience objectively, we become grateful for the change that is changing us. This gratitude frees us to transform and live an incredible life now – not just when things transform.

Live Brightly,

Have you fallen into this trap?
One of the most common ways the spiritual ego hides is behind a single phrase: "I shouldn't have to want." Many sensitive, deeply spiritual people have been taught that wanting things is an attachment. We learn to transcend desire, to be okay with whatever happens, and to view wanting as a sign that we are not fully surrendered. But there is a profound difference between surrendering to the flo...
Why we retreat when we actually crave connection
There is a painful, quiet dance that many sensitive people do: we crave deep, soul-nourishing connection, but we retreat into isolation because we are exhausted by the thought of managing other people's expectations. When we look closely at our patterns, it is very common to find that what we call "self-care" is actually a defense mechanism. We meet someone new, we feel that beautiful spark of ...
The Hidden Source of our Deepest Family Frustration
There is a quiet, profound dynamic that plays out in almost every family system, yet it is rarely spoken about until we are deep into our own healing journey. It is this: The parent we are most frustrated with is usually not the parent where the problem originated. When we look back at our childhoods, it is very common to feel massive, unresolved frustration toward the parent who was always the...
